2013 Birdies for Charity Gulf Coast Classic
The way Birdies for Charity works is for charitable organizations to obtain flat dollar donations OR pledges of 3 cents or more for every "birdie" made during the Gulf Resort Classic.
Birdies for Charity will donate ALL money received to participating charities.
Each person who makes a pledge to Birdies for Charity has an opportunity to guess the exact number of birdies that will be made at the Gulf Resort Classic. The one person who guesses the exact number will win the grand prize—a two night hotel stay and Dinner at the Hard Rock Hotel in Biloxi, MS.
How to pledge:
Hope Haven is asking folks to pledge a nickel (.05) minimum for every birdie of the tournament. The average birdie total for the Gulf Resort Classic is 700 birdies (Friday to Sunday). A nickel pledge would result in a $35 donation, delivered to Hope Haven penny-for-penny! Pledges can also me made at the Hope Haven offices at 716 Herlihy Street Waveland MS 39576
Go to the Birdies for Charity website (& read it, too!): (www.2013mgrc.com). Click on the green "Make a Pledge" box on the right hand side of the homepage. Follow the steps to make a pledge. While you are at it, enter YOUR guess in the “Guess the Birdies” Contest. The correct prediction for exact number of birdies made in the Champions tour will net the grand prize—a two night Hotel stay and Dinner provided by the Hard Rock Hotel Biloxi.
Starting the School Year Back Right
Recently, Terry Latham and April Carter brought some uniforms to South Hancock to distribute as needed to the children in the district. $3,000 worth of uniforms were donated, though a grant from His Way so that kids can have a better opportunity to focus on their studies rather than what they are wearing.
Did we mention that shopping for uniforms for this was a blast? Thanks to Wal-Mart for their partnership--the generosity of the store and its members helped us to procure more than we expected. Oh, and thanks as well to everyone who politely made way for the basketcases running through Wal-Mart with buggies full of kids clothes!

Hope Haven recently held their annual Children's Health Fair on 28 July 2012. We had a remarkable turnout of folks getting health information for their families and for their children, including free eye exams provided by the Lion's Club of Diamondhead. We estimate over 500 people were in attendance. Three hundred plus elementary aged children received free school supplies and 170 children recieved free backpacks to start the school year off right. Thanks to the wonderful outpouring of our community we were able to ship 18 massive boxes of warmth and compassion to our Northern Neighbors--hats, mittens, coats, scarves, sweats, sweaters, and of course socks threatened to overtake our offices before they were all corralled and shipped.
Special thanks to everyone who came out--for our Gumprofessionals who created bragworthy masterpieces to the talented tasters who conferred their blessings--because of you guys and the wonderful folks down at C&R's we raised several thousand dollars to go towards our Christmas committments. Pat yourselves on the back--and give lease to those who deserve to brag, and remember, it's only for 364 more days--more time to perfect the art for the next round!

Another great event from more great folks--the wonderful folks at Blum, Broom, & Sawyer hosted a fun-filled silent auction and bug boil. Their efforts raised $12,500 towards our mission of helping abused, neglected, and needy children in our community. A special thanks to these ladies and to everyone who helped put together this special event and those who came to support us!

Thanks again, to Ms. Nadene Brown, the
C & R's crew, some talented boilers, and all our supportive community members for coming out to have a slurping good time with us at C & R's 5th annual Crawfish Boil and Fundraiser. With your support (and your smacking love for mudbugs) over $14,000 was raised to support Hope Haven's mission.
Due to our growing successes with the boil, it was moved into bigger space this year at Elwood Bourgeois Park in Waveland. It was a blast. Hope to see you there next year!
Heal the Soul Domestic Violence Walk
Recently the wonderful young ladies from the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Theta Omega Zeta Chapter hosted a Heal the Soul Domestic Violence walk for awareness and fundraising, and it included some information about Domestic Violence. Numerous organizations were present to provide information regarding Domestic Violence and funds were shared between Hope Haven and the Women's Center for Nonviolence.
